Jose Guadalupe Garza, 82, died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at McKay-Dee Hospital.

He was born March 28, 1926 in McAllen, Texas, a son of Jose and Gertrudis Garza.

On October 28, 1954, Jose married Emma Elizondo, whom he loved, cared and provided for throughout their many years together.

He was a traveling salesman during the 40’s.

Jose served his country during the Korean War. He was part of the 1st Anti-Aircraft Command, vital to the success of the Korean War. Post military he was involved in Admirable Charities, including DAV and a volunteer at the VA Hospital. Jose worked as a Civilian Contractor for Clearfield, Utah, Navy Base.

He attended Barber College and Weber State in the Criminal Justice program. Jose had a wonderful career, of 30 years as a Security Officer at Defense Depot of Ogden.

He also served as an active member of the Knights of Columbus at St. James Parish, achieving the status of 4th degree Knight.

Jose enjoyed talking with people, music, baseball, golf, and bowling. His greatest moments in life were watching baseball and spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by one daughter, Irene M. Cruz, Ogden; three grandchildren, Joseph Manuel Garza, Belinda Cruz and Dennis Cruz, all of Ogden; and one great-granddaughter, Cheyanne Solana Garza, Florida. He is also survived by two sisters, Gertrudis Garza, and Esperanza Gonzales, both of McAllen, Texas; and, one brother, Ramiro Garza of Reynosa, Mexico.

Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 3, 2008 at St. James Catholic Church, 495 N. Harrison Blvd., Ogden, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Eric officiating. A viewing will be held at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park where Military Honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor guard.

He was an honorable man with a strong spirit, who touched the lives of many and will be missed by all family, friends, and acquaintances.
