1913  -  2008

Hans Weber, age 95, passed away Monday, June 30, 2008 in Bountiful, Utah.

He was born June 23, 1913 in Breslau, Silesia, Germany. He was the youngest child of Valentin Weber and Agnes Runge. He had an older sister Margaret and an older brother Helmut. All of this family predeceased him.

On February 14, 1942 he married Elfriede Massner. He was drafted into the German Army in 1942 and was a prisoner of war in Russia for 4 ½ years. He lived in Germany for 39 years and immigrated to New York City in 1952. He lived in Yorkville on the upper east side of Manhattan where he was employed by Eastman Kodak.

He moved to North Salt Lake, Utah after his retirement in 1978. He was a leader of the Silesian Society in both New York City and Salt Lake City. He was a gifted musician on the piano and the accordion. He was also talented in poetry and wrote hundreds of poems for family and friends over the years.

Hans was an elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survived by his wife, Frieda, and his three daughters, Karin Seelos (Jerry) of North Salt Lake, Gisela Player (Stewart) of San Leandro, California, and Doris Weber of Woodside, Queens, New York. He has 8 grandchildren: Jennifer Wimmer (Scot) of Salt Lake; Andrew Seelos (Susan) of Kaysville; Suzanne Ewell (Eric) of San Bernardino, California; Stephanie Garaycochea (Christian) of Sandy, Utah; Gregory Player (Monica) of Boise, Idaho; Andrea Oldham (Lavar) of Sandy, Utah; Matthew Seelos (Jamie) of Woods Cross; and Amanda Rosenthal (David) of Las Vegas, Nevada. Hans had 30 great grandchildren at his death. He is also survived by one niece, Sieglinde Fretz (Barry) of Earlville, Pennsylvania.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Orchard Stake Center, 3599 South Orchard Drive, Bountiful where friends may call from 9:30 – 10:30 am prior to the services. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery in Bountiful.
