Lorene McLamarrah

1942  -  2008

On June 30, 2008 Lorene Bushnell McLamarrah passed away. She was the daughter of Phebe Ingrid Taylor and Bernard Bushnell.

She was born in Meadow, Utah. Here she was raised on a farm, reminiscent of the pioneer days. They used a horse and buggy for travel. They had no indoor plumbing and plenty of farm chores, like sewing there own clothes and working with the animals. Her 3 sisters ( Marie Young, Dawn Yates, and Eva Dean Mckee) and 4 brothers ( John, Leroy, Jim, and Follett) were kept busy with that lifestyle.

When Lorene had spare time she loved to find a quiet spot and read many books. This enriched her life with wisdom and knowledge. The family moved to Salt Lake City while Lorene was a teenager. Here she found the joy of indoor plumbing.

She graduated from East High School and started working at First Security as a driver, eventually becoming and instructor and a supervisor. She would later use these skills in raising her family and in church callings. During this time she attended dances, where she met her future husband, Fred McLamarrah. When discussing potential marriage dates, Fred told her that she could have any month but the shotgun month. Lorene asked, “What the shotgun month was?”, and Fred replied, “August”. They married in the Manti Temple on August 29, 1968.

You can see that she always got her way with Fred. They moved to Washington State as newlyweds and looked after a farm. Here they would begin there family. She lost her first child, Tammy, during delivery. Brett was her second child and brought her great joy, especially since the doctors had told her that having anymore children would kill her. Brenda was the third and Rhondalyn the fourth. There were many miscarriages scattered in between all of these, with one of the most difficult ones being their son, Elery, who was almost full term before the miscarriage happened.

Lorene was a lifelong active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Lorene’s testimony was very strong and was polished through much adversity. She lost her son Brett when he was 16. She dealt with diabetes throughout her adult life, which caused many physical ailments. Her greatest joy was found in her family and still is. She looked forward to having grandchildren from her daughters when they married. At the time of her passing she had the privilege of having five of them. Talon G’Kar Garrard (5), Dimitry Savon Ford (4), Daxton McCrae Garrard (4), Acadia Sage Garrard (2), Ivanova Nyte Garrard (4 weeks). She spoiled them with love and kindness. She always jumped at the opportunity to watch them, even when her health was deteriorating.

She has many talents and hobbies. She loved to work with Ceramics and enjoyed helping her kids with all types of projects, from sewing, cooking, crafts, playing games, reading, and school projects. She has been the best wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandma, and friend any of us could have.

Her heart was always in the right place and her faith unwavering. She taught us patience, love and perseverance through trials. Her family and acquaintances will always keep her close in their hearts, and her family in Heaven is now enjoying their time with her. We all love you very much Lorene. As wide as our arms can open and more.
